Acupuncture, The Alternative Medicine
from: Dana DrewerAcupuncture is an ancient chinese method of healing. It has been around for over 2000 years, and is still being used, now, as an accepted alternative medical practice. This wasn't always so. In 1972 then President Nixon made a trip to China and acupuncture was "Discovered" by the western world and news of its great uses was becoming known.
It is based on the belief that there are 12 invisible energy lines through the body. These energy lines or meridians, allow the energy to flow through your body. If any of these energy lines are blocked, they can cause illness and the illness can cause a disease.
The idea of acupunture is to release those blocked energy lines and allow the Qi (chE) to flow through the body as nature designed it to be. To accomplish this, the acupuncturist uses stainless steel needles to puncture the body. These punctures are placed in specific areas of the body that are known to harbor sensors that produce a response by the body.
Acupuncture or needle piercing stimulates these sensors in the body and sometimes are used with heat, suction, friction and eletromagnetic energy to improve the circulation of blood and assist in healing.
There is an endless list of ways acupuncture can be used to relieve pain, aid in weight loss, ease arthritis pain and help in the field of fertility.
As early as 40 years ago acupuncture was not well known or believed in the western world. Although the Chinese have been practicing it for centuries, the west was at the bottom of the ladder when believing in the proven results of acupuncture used in medical practice.
Today acupuncture is a recognized medical field and there are licensed professionals that can aid in your medical care. Some patients have stated that with the use of acupuncture, they could reduce the amount of pain medication they required. This is a great development for the medical community, to be able to reduce medications for their patients, which will reduce side effects that their patients need to worry about.
Always do a complete and thorough search when seeking medical help. An acupuncturist is no exception. They must be licensed to practice in your area with the local medical association.
This addition to the therapy prescribed can greatly enhance your ability to recover quicker.
