Chinese Medicine And Its Basic Principles
from:Medicine and the medical world that most of us use today is relative new. Conventional or modern medicine over the last century has made many advances and almost every day a new discovery is made to make this form of medication more effective.
Chinese medicine, another form of medicine, had been practiced for centuries, and originated in Asia around 4000 years ago. Today it is practiced not only in China and the east, but increasingly in many areas of the west also. Since the beginning of the 1950s research in the area of Chinese medicine has been prolific.
The Foundation Of Chinese Medicine
Taoism forms the basis of Chinese medicine, this is a combination of religion and philosophy. Taoism is rooted in the natural and observable laws of the universe and man’s relation to that universe. This belief system has led to five basic principles of Taoism that are found in Chinese medicine.
The first is that there are natural laws that govern the universe, and we are all subject to those laws.
The next principle is that the universe is in an organized, harmonious state.
The third principle is that because the universe is dynamic, change is a part of it.
The next principle of Taoism that is rooted in Chinese medicine is that all of life is interconnected.
Finally, Taoism subscribes to the belief that humans are intertwined with nature.
Chinese medicine applies a whole system approach to treatment of the body and accepts the principle that environmental factors can affect your health – in both positive and negative ways.
These five principles that govern the way that Chinese medicine is approached and administered. Consideration is given to the entire body as will as the mind and spirit, in order to achieve total wellbeing and health.
Options for Treatment
Chinese medicine has many different components, and each of these can be used at different times and also for different conditions. Treatments include herbal medicine, acupuncture and diet as well as others. Treatments can be used together for the maximum effect such as using acupuncture therapy and herbal remedies.
A lot of people find that they cannot get any ease with convention methods of treatment, and Chinese medicine will work when conventional methods of treatment may not. Others appreciate that the holistic approach to wellness is the most effective route to good health for them. Whatever your reason, it is possible that this age-old form of medicine might be the best choice for you in achieving optimum wellness. In each case we would recommend consulting your physician before embarking on any herbal treatment which may conflict with any conventional medication you may be taking.
